Let the good times roll. SunBird continues to have activities and events, with the facilities and parking reaching capacity and/or selling out. The Kare Bears Fashion Show was a huge success, with a sold-out crowd to have lunch and watch the models wearing the latest styling fashions of clothing. SunBird Pickleball Club’s Alzheimer’s three-day tournament and fundraiser had over 250 enrolled players raising just shy of $22,000 to help find a cure. The Cornhole league started this year for the first time outside on the sport courts due to its size. Bingo and Fame Trivia nights are completely filled with participants to the maximum seating capacity. SunBird’s annual Car Show was awesome, with a record number of classy and new modern luxury sports cars. The crowd favorite was the 1931 Ford Model A. The SunBird Singers and Ringers concert of two nights was excellent, with singing and ringing with the sound of rain and thunder. The Garden Club’s annual Home Tour was fantastic, with seven newly redecorated and remodeled homes showcased. The Irish Club’s St. Patrick’s Day Golf Cart Parade was as fun and zany as usual. Live music events with DJ Jamal, the Spring Fling Dance, and Harley Davidson. Live concerts of cover bands from the Eagles, REO Speedwagon, the comedian The Spouse Whisperer, and the Dueling Pianos. Several state parties, neighborhood block parties, social club parties, and other parties were hosted in or around the clubhouse. That’s a lot of rolling.
This past month was the annual membership meeting for the SunBird Golf Resort Homeowners Association held in the ballroom. The purpose of the meeting is to report to the membership the operations of the 2023 year. Butler and Hansen CPA and audit firm was contracted to perform the 2023 annual financial audit. The auditor concluded that after review and study of SunBird’s financial reports and other requested documents, the auditor issued an “unmodified opinion.” This means that SunBird’s financial reports and statements were reported accurately and fairly in accordance with generally accepted account principles (GAAP). Each of SunBird’s committee chairpersons made reports of their work and accomplishments of the year. Nancy Eckstein, president, and Chuck Heitbrink, treasurer, presented reports of the operations of 2023. The year was deemed another good year for SunBird.
April 6 is SunBird’s “Far-Out” music festival and party to be held outdoors at the east end of the clubhouse around the outdoor stage area. This will be a huge outdoor event with well over 1,000 in attendance, so bring your own chair and dancing shoes. The roads and parking lots will be blocked off for dancing in the street and the duration of the event. The theme will be a ‘60s type for peace, love, and happiness. Uncorked The Band will be performing live music, a variety of food trucks will be onsite, a photo booth camper trailer, hula-hoop contest, good company, and lots of fun!
As the summer is quickly approaching and some might be making plans for leaving before the warmer months arrive, it’s a great time to revisit home crime prevention. The best method for home crime prevention, according to the City of Chandler Police Department, is getting involved with neighbors who can work together and look out for each other’s homes and property. Another good method is having motion sensor lights and/or cameras installed in strategic areas. Consider having timers in the house to have lights scheduled to turn on and off at various times. Have the home appear that it is not vacant with upkeep of landscaping and appearance. Consider not leaving keys to a vehicle that may be left behind parked in the garage or carport. Make sure all doors and windows are properly locked, and consider additional locks to glass sliding doors and windows. Consider using the City of Chandler Police Department’s Vacation Watch program at no charge. Before leaving, please complete the “We’re Back/We’re Leaving” form, which can be found on SunBird’s website. Stop by the SunBird office to update mailing addresses and emergency contact information.
All of these activities and events couldn’t have been successful without the many clubs, groups, and staff working together. We want to express our appreciation to all those who assisted, organized, marketed, sold tickets, set up, operated, and cleaned up after each of these events. Working together keeps SunBird an active and fun community.
