From one Computer Booter to another, join us this month

Sue Klein, Publicity Coordinator

The Computer Booters will meet on December 2 at 7:00 p.m. at Sun Lakes Country Club in the Navajo Room. Our quest speaker this month is Mike Long. With a degree in data processing he has 15 years experience on Wall Street. He was also Vice President of Operations for National Discount Brokers, an online brokerage firm. Mike also served as Director of Operations for Milbank, Tweed, Hadley & McCoy, a prestigious Manhattan law firm.

Mr. Long currently owns and operates Advanced IT Solutions, a Mesa-based computer services and technology firm that has been serving the metro-Phoenix area for the past eight years.

A computer elf reported to me that three gift cards from Office Max will be in the drawing after our guest speaker: plus free ice cream bars. What a deal that is; an informative speaker, possibly a gift card and free ice cream!

December Highlights:

December 1, 8 and 15 at 7:00 pm for one hour; Rollie, a very knowledgeable facilitator, will have a basic class on computer maintenance. In the three weeks he will discuss the BIOS, Anti-virus program, uninstall, the registry and safe mode and a number of other topics. Class starts at 7:00 p.m. in the Art and Crafts Room of Sun Lakes Country Club. No registration, no books required, but handouts will be given to you. Bring yourself, your smile and arrive on time.

We have a special interest group forming for December 3 to discuss Windows 8.1. A SIG (special interest group) meets regularly to discuss, help and assist each other in using Windows 8.1 computer software. Please bring your tablet or laptop with Windows 8 as its operating system. It will also be helpful to bring paper and pen for notes. Smile and arrive on time (6:30 p.m.).

Skype or talking to a friend or relative through your computer is scheduled for December 11 at 6:30 p.m. Guy and Howard, two of our member facilitators, will be demonstrating and teaching you how to set up Skype. When using Skype plus a computer camera, you can also see the person you are talking to. What a great way to talk to those grandkids.

All classes are held in the Arts and Crafts Room of Sun Lakes Country Club near the shuffle board.

Ho, ho, ho – Computer elves report that Amazon has electronic Kindle book readers on sale. An electronic reader is a great gift for grandparents. A reader is light weight, easy to hold, lighter than most books and you can control the size of the letters.

Our membership focus is computer classes for adults living in Sun Lakes and surrounding communities. Membership registration can cover one person for $36 and a dual membership, 21 years and older, for $48. This covers the nine main meetings featuring computer presentations and assistance, plus a number of classes.

Contact Guy Laroche at [email protected] to join the club or follow membership information on our website at Computerbooters.org. Membership is required to participate in all classes.
