The annual SunBird Community Auction on Jan. 20 was a huge success, not only in terms of money raised, but also as a social event. Auctioneer extraordinaire, Mike Goldade, fired up the enthusiasm of the crowd and raised the fun meter with his bidding chant.
A “Donation to a Worthy Cause” was the theme hugely supported by the best bakers in SunBird. A 20-pound, one of a kind apple pie sold for $205. The most rollicking part of the event was the auction of eight volunteer caddies, each one offering a better deal than the previous one, bringing the bids to well over $300. Many thanks to all the donors of goods and services.
Marsha and John Brockish coordinated the live auction items and the very popular Silent Auction. HOA staff Joe, Joe, and Wendie set up the venue. The usual host of volunteers, Karen, Cindy, Gayle, Patrick, Gary, Norm, and James, ran the event. A huge thank you to all of them.
The proceeds of $7,200 will be used to maintain the lakes, fountains, and lush fairways that make SunBird the “Jewel of the Valley.”
Mark your calendar for next year’s auction, which will once again be coupled with the Founders Cup Golf Tournament and Chili Cook-Off. Both events attracted record numbers of participants. Congratulations to Jack Cooper and his volunteers.
