What’s in a name? Your heritage? Your honor? Maybe your credit?
We are often surprised and amazed to discover who our ancestors were. Names are equally important to authors. You have only to mention Grisham or Baldacci and you think “best seller” or “great stories.” We enjoy reading about their personal lives and their reasons for writing.
There are many authors who have been awarded prestigious prizes for their masterful storytelling. Each year since its start in 1917, the Pulitzer Prize has been given by Columbia University. Likewise, the Booker Prize is given each year for the best original novel, and the Agatha Award, named for Agatha Christie, is awarded to mystery writers who wrote in the “cozy mystery” genre.
The Sue Grafton Memorial Award was won by Sara Paretsky. Other mystery awards are given by Mary Higgins Clark and Ellery Queen. The popular Dagger Award is given by the Crime Writers Association. These award winners and many more can be found on a special library shelf. They are all marked with a small gold star on the spine of the book.
Please be a good SunBird reader and return all books so others can enjoy them.
