The Desert Navy wishes all a happy holiday season

Richard Volpe

Our normal club meeting will not be taking place this month, as the Desert Navy Club will be holding its annual Holiday Dinner with members and guests in the Horizon Room located in the SunBird Community Center. We will be getting back to our normal scheduling once we bring in the new year, with our next meeting scheduled for Jan. 17. Our meetings start at 11 a.m. and are held in the Lakeview Room, located on the first floor of the newly-decorated SunBird Community Center.

Navy, Marine, Coast Guard, and Merchant Marine Veterans are always welcome. Meetings are usually held to no more than an hour, and at most meetings we have guest speakers who provide us with a variety of topics of interest. Following our meetings, many of the group stay for lunch in the Horizon Room, located in the same complex where our meetings are held. Lunches are pre-ordered through a special menu which minimizes the wait time and the ordering process at the restaurant. Check us out and you may be surprised to meet somebody you’ve met before in your earlier days, or someone with similar experiences that you went through during your time spent in the Service.

While this is an exciting time of the year, it also can be a time of sadness for many. Take a moment to be thankful for all the good things you’ve been blessed with, and also, more importantly, take a moment to remember all those who are going through hardships or may be missing their loved ones who cannot be with them, and especially all those in harm’s way, whether serving in the military or in other areas that make our lives safer here at home.
