The current popularity of the movie and book titled Where the Crawdads Sing, by Delia Owens, has made many of us aware of crawdads. Well, they are in Sun Lakes and in our Arizona lakes.
When the lake water is down, creating muddy edges near the rocks, both the Green Herons and Snowy Egrets seem to find them. Crawdads or crawfish are a unique and tasty seafood delicacy found in Arizona’s lakes and rivers. If live bait is used, the Arizona Game and Fish Department requires a fishing or combination license. I don’t think the Green Heron has one!
