Barbara Stewart

Vice Chief Justice Ann Scott Timmer of the Arizona Supreme Court will speak to the Southeast Valley Branch of the American Association of University Women (AAUW) on April 19, at 5 p.m. One of five women ever to serve on the Arizona Supreme Court, she has distinguished herself throughout her career as an attorney and a judge, winning many prestigious awards including this year’s Woman of the Year from the Arizona Capitol Times.

Justice Timmer received her B.A. from the University of Arizona; her J.D., magna cum laude, from Arizona State; and her Masters in Judicial Studies from Duke University Law School. She practiced commercial law for 15 years and then served on the Court of Appeals for 12 years, three as Chief Judge, before joining the Supreme Court. She is a strong advocate for women in business and law, and the mother of three daughters, each of whom she has raised to follow their own paths; her eldest is an artist, the middle daughter, who is deaf and mentally impaired, is learning independence from her parents, and her youngest daughter is pursuing a career in film.
