USA/Canada Road Trip

Margaret Munsch, Publicity

Two members of the Lady 18ers League, Vice President Lisa Onyx and Treasurer Kim Mishko, decided to get in the car and visit some of their fellow Lady 18ers in their summer home locations.

One of their early stops was to meet with Jeanie Chase, president of the Ladies League, and fellow member JoAnn Baker at Skagit Golf and Country Club in Burlington, Wash., for a game of golf. The weather was great, as was the golf and conversations!

Next, the girls took the ferry to Friday Harbor, Wash., in the San Juan Islands for a little sightseeing. From there, they made their way across the USA/Canada border to British Columbia, Canada, where they met up with Viva Smith, secretary of the Lady 18ers League, and her husband Greg Smith who is the treasurer for the SunBird Golf Club. They spent a couple of days together at Viva and Greg’s cottage and managed to get in a game of golf at Princeton Golf Club in Princeton, British Columbia.

The girls drove through the interior of British Columbia, visiting various communities before arriving in Cranbrook, British Columbia, which is in the Kootenay Rocky Region of the Canadian Rockies. There they met up with Pat and Rod McInnes, who winter in SunBird Golf Community, as well as Wendie Cameron, who previously wintered in SunBird. In addition to a good visit and seeing some of the sites, the girls managed to enjoy a game of golf at Wildstone Golf Course in Cranbrook with Pat and Rod McInnes.

The girls left Cranbrook and headed further north into Alberta and made a stop in Canmore, Alberta. They decided that rather than golf, they would focus on seeing some of the many sites in the Bow Valley of the Canadian Rockies. They spent a day on a tour, visiting sites like Moraine Lake, Banff, Canmore, and Lake Louise where they just missed a bear that was wandering around. In addition to seeing the sites, they managed to connect for dinner with Margaret Munsch who manages publicity for the Lady 18ers and happens to live in Canmore.

After all the golf games and touring, Kim and Lisa drove back to the United States with many new memories and an understanding of how to get back to the beautiful places and good friends!
