Hi and welcome to the SunBird Men’s League monthly update for the month of February. At the time of writing this, it is Feb. 2, Groundhog Day, and 80 degrees. In Canada the groundhog Balzac Billy has seen his shadow, and there are another six weeks of winter.
Punxsutawney Phil has predicted six more weeks of winter. You are probably wondering where I am going with this. I was told by a reliable source that the Arizona cactus has seen its shadow, and we are going to get six more weeks of Arizona winter—oh gosh!
January was a busy month for the SunBird Men’s League, with rounds of Gross/Net, 1-2-3 Net, 1st round of Match Play (which is not completed yet), and two weeks of Gross/Net qualifiers for the Net Couples Shootout on Feb. 6. The men qualifying for this event were Trent Johnson, shooting 59 and a hole-in-one; Dave White, shooting 65; Bill Sikkema, shooting 65; Duane Dub, shooting 66; Bob Morris, shooting 66; Mark Geurink, shooting 67; Steve Kirkpatrick, shooting 68; and Darrly Joyce, shooting 68. Alternates were Don McElhaney, shooting 69; Larry Baker, shooting 69; and Todd Brautigam, shooting 69.
For March, the Sunbird Men’s League will participate in the second qualifier of the Couple’s Gross Shootout, 2-Man Scramble, and finish off the month with the combined Men’s/Ladies Step Aside Scramble, lunch, and awards.
