The members of Kare Bears would like to share with you a look back on our accomplishments and a look forward to the new 2026-27 season.
In March of 2026 we said goodbye to two special ladies that had served on the board and assisted with so many functions. Joyce Kelner served for two years as president and Paula Warhoover served as board member at large. Both did so much more for the organization than just fulfilling their board duties. We welcome new board members, Barbara Dunbar serving as secretary and Sherri McElhaney serving as vice president for the 2026–27 season. And we welcome back Judy Adams serving as president, Marie Hunter serving as treasurer, and Birdie Lopez as board member at large.
In addition to the services our membership gives to the Sunbird Community, such as chicken dinners to those who have had surgery or a hospital stay, assisting our neighbors with memorial services and sending numerous cards to those needing comfort; we raise money throughout the year which is then given to non-profits in the East Valley. During the 2025-26 season we raised over $10,000. We donated to non-profits in the valley that assist Sunbird residents and the needy. Here are a few groups that gained from our work: Neighbors Who Care, Hospice of the Valley, Valley Bloom, AZ Rangers, House of Refuge.
Our meetings will start up again in October. We meet on the third Wednesday of every month at 1 p.m. in the ballroom. Please consider joining this wonderful group of women. We plan to have our four craft fairs as usual, the first Saturday of November, December, February, and March in the ballroom. In addition, please mark your calendar for the following community events:
Dance—Jan. 16, Concert—Feb. 16, Fashion Show—Feb. 19.
