Welcoming new and returning members of the Irish Club, President Walt Kinney opened the first meeting of our 2016-2017 session on Thursday, October 6 at 6:00 p.m. in the Horizon Room.
The minutes of April’s patio party/meeting were read and approved. The Treasurer’s report followed and was approved. There are several committee chairperson seats that need to be filled, calling, historian, parade and patio. No volunteers yet, but we will lower the shillelagh in November to recruit volunteers for these positions.
George Shiel is in charge of our luncheons. This season we will go to lunch at either R.T. O’Sullivan’s or The Harp. It was decided that we will meet for lunch in November, January and March. The luncheons will be changed from Thursdays to Tuesdays.
Margaret O’Brien reported on our annual theater event, which this year will be Spirit of Christmas, held on Sunday, December 18 at 2:00 p.m. at Chandler Center for the Arts. Tickets are $23 per person and will be available at November’s meeting.
Plans are already underway for our Christmas party, the Laughlin trip in February, corned beef and cabbage dinner in March, patio party in April, plus bocce ball, horseshoes, shuffleboard and our second annual St. Pat’s Parade. Looks to be quite a fun year for the Sons of Erin.
Our next meeting will be held on Thursday, November 3 at 6:00 p.m. in the Horizon Room. We welcome anyone who would like to join in our events. Membership dues are only $10 per year. And, if you were actually born in Ireland, you can join for free!
