The SunBird Garden Club has wrapped up the 2020-21 season. While the usual meetings and events were suspended due to the coronavirus, the Garden Club remained active, maintaining the numerous gardens in SunBird, as well as assisting in creating new gardens and viewing spots. The garden spot along Championship Road in front of fairway 4 is flourishing. Many people have enjoyed viewing the activities of the golfers and walkers from the benches, generously donated by several SunBird residents. The Garden Club also joined efforts with the SunBird Golf Club in creating a landscape oasis in front of the Golf Shop, along SunBird Blvd. Completion of additional golf cart parking provided an opportunity for creating a restful area to soak in the scenery overlooking the ninth fairway. Members of both clubs, as well as other SunBird residents, leveled the ground, shoveled 20 tons of rock, laid paving bricks, and planted numerous plants and shade trees. Everything in this project was made possible by direct donations from SunBird residents to the Garden Club, specifically for this location. Ken Bergmann donated several benches in memory of his wife Donna, who loved to golf, and was also a member and ardent supporter of the Garden Club. We hope you will take time to sit a spell and drink in the beauty of this area.
The Garden Club hopes to resume regular meetings and activities in the Fall of 2021 with a possible bird walk and garden appreciation event. We hope to continue with the tradition of the Home Tours when it is deemed safe to do so. We encourage everyone who has an interest in seeing SunBird maintain a vibrant, pleasant viewing landscape to join the Garden Club. There are activities for all levels of interest and involvement, from learning about desert gardens, socially sharing garden experiences, to getting your hands dirty in maintaining the beautification of gardens. Gardening experience is not necessary for joining. An interest in meeting people and enjoying the company of others with a smile is all that is required.
