On a chilly Christmas Eve, over 400 people gathered in the Ballroom. They had not come to the SunBird Church to be entertained but to worship and celebrate the birth of Christ.
On the stage, lighted Christmas trees cast a soft glow. In the center was a beautiful nativity scene.
Trish Russell and Lynette Martens playing dual pianos opened the service and were followed by Hank Miller’s smooth voice welcoming the audience and saying an opening prayer.
Then followed a real Christmas treat when Nathan Guerkink, grandson of residents Connie and Warren Guerkink, played a magnificent cello solo. Nathan is a member of the famed Boston Pops.
After Hank continued his Christmas story narration, song writer and vocalist Nancy Smith offered a touching rendition of This One Night.
Minister Jim Baugh with his powerful voice sang I’ll Be Home for Christmas and later Away in the Manger with his family. He concluded with O, Holy Night.
Another highlight was an impressive church choir led by Pat Miller singing Christmas Noels. There was also some community by the large audience.
Following Silent Night by talented vocalist Cynthia Bastin, Minister Baugh gave a message entitled “Coming Home for Christmas” which he likened to earthly friends and relatives traveling home to that of our going to our heavenly home and celebrating Christmas with Christ.
That night each one attending was blessed by giving a night of glory to our Lord. Thanks to all who made our Christmas Eve service a success.
Hank Miller is leading a Bible study in the Hopi Room each Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. All are welcome.
