SunBird American German Club news – January 2015

Trish Deflieze

Happy New Year to all our members! May 2015 be a healthy, happy and prosperous one for all of us.

We ended 2014 by holding our Christmas dinner in our own Horizon Room restaurant. The new management did us proud. The atmosphere was festive with Christmas decorations and centerpieces on each table. The dining room was arranged to give us a private eating area which everyone thought was great. The menu was to our taste with wiener schnitzel, potato salad and sauerkraut. Dessert was German chocolate cake provided by the club. We ended the meal with a rousing rendition of The Twelve Days of Christmas. I’m sure the bar area and their customers were as entertained by our singing as we were. Everyone was in a festive mood and all the comments were positive. It was an excellent way to start the holiday season. Many thanks to the Horizon Room management and staff for the great food and service.

Our first meeting of 2015 will be held on Tuesday, January 27 at 6:00 p.m. in the Horizon Room. The club will provide appetizer trays for our enjoyment. We will also have an assortment of desserts provided by the members. I’m sure everyone will enjoy this start to the new year.

Nominating Committee chair Don McMullen asks that members be receptive if asked to consider taking a position for the 2015-2017 season. No pressure; just remember that “many hands make light work.”

The American German Club is always happy to see new members. Any SunBird resident with an interest in the history and culture of Germany is welcome.
