Appears like we’ve just finished welcoming in the new year, and all of a sudden, we head into the March winds, with many opportunities to enjoy the surroundings so close by. Locally in the Sun Lakes area, there is a constant flow of activities and events to fill up anybody’s agenda. Keep those calendars handy and stay current with the local publications. The Easter holiday is just around the corner, and St. Patrick’s Day is always filled with fun and laughter for the young at heart. It’s also a time when most of the students will be enjoying their spring break, and many will be traveling for a short getaway, as well as family and friends spending time here to catch up on things that are important to them.
For those who are train enthusiasts, once again the Arizona Big Train Club will be having its annual Spring Break Open Houses. Dates they will be open will be Feb. 29 and March 1, 7, and 8. There will be several open houses around the Valley, including the Sun Lakes area, and, in general, the homes will be open to the public from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. If interested, I suggest you check out their club’s website at www.azbigtrains.org. This will provide you with dates, locations, and times. This information is important, as not all locations are open at all times indicated. If you have problems reaching them, feel free to get back to me.
For those new to the area or visiting friends and family, a short trip may be enjoyable. Within a short drive you can plan a fun day at the McCormick-Stillman Railroad Park in Scottsdale or visit the Superstition Mountain Museum in Apache Junction where they have a very impressive “Big Train” layout, plus several other displays from the old Wild West days. Also, you may want to look into the Verde Canyon, Grand Canyon, Sedona, and possibly ride around one of the lakes in the area that are scheduled frequently.
If you would like any additional information on any of this, feel free to send me an email or you can call me at 480-802 49765. Our club typically meets on the first Saturday of the month. Our meetings are held in the Lakeview Room of the SunBird Community Center and start at 9:30 a.m. Looking forward to meeting up with you either at one of our events or at one of our meetings. Have a great day.
