SOUTHWEST TEA WITH AN IRISH FLAIR!

Ellen Harrington, President

The Chandler community is invited to the 2019 Chandler-Tullamore Sister Cities’ Eighth Annual Southwest Tea on Saturday, November 2 from 10:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. This fun event will be held at the Tumbleweed Recreation Center’s Cotton Room in Chandler, 745 East Germann Road. Lots of energy has gone into the planning and preparation for this event. We’ll have live entertainment, starting with master bagpiper Len Wood, scrumptious brunch menu, great chance baskets, and more! Our 18 table hosts are “decorating” the tables with their individual themes and creative imaginations, plus baking our desserts. Pastor Victor Hardy will lend his vocals to our opening prayer, followed by the American and Irish anthems by our Arizona Colleens, and a greeting by Chandler Mayor Kevin Hartke.

In addition to celebrating with a diverse group of local entertainers, this occasion will showcase the CTSC’s current and future projects — participation in the 2020 Sister Cities International Young Artists and Authors program; a presentation by our Student Ambassador Program; introduction to our next cultural exchange with our sister city, Tullamore, Ireland by local author and artist, Laurie Fagen; a presentation of the upcoming Famine Memorial at the Irish Cultural Center; sales of our “Desert Fare” cookbook – a collaboration between Chandler’s Seton Catholic and Tullamore’s Sacred Heart High Schools, and other upcoming events. We will also be sharing information on our planned guided trip to Ireland in July – August 2020.

Chandler-Tullamore Sister Cities is celebrating our 10th tear of “twinning,” and our celebration wouldn’t be complete without the fabulous Bracken School of Irish Dance!

Reservations are necessary; to purchase tickets online, please visit our website at www.chandlerirish.org. General admission is $22 for adults and $10 for 11 years and under. Doors open at 10 a.m. for registration and purchasing basket tickets – we want to begin the meal and program promptly at 10:30am.

CTSC was created to join Chandler and Tullamore, Ireland as Sister Cities through Sister Cities International. Their mission is to “cultivate and maintain a strong reciprocal relationship between Chandler and Tullamore to encourage cultural understanding, community involvement, economic development, and educational exchanges.” CTSC offers a variety of membership gatherings, informational meetings and other benefits throughout the year.
