Hopefully, you all got to enjoy the sudden change in weather here in the Sun Lakes area. We welcome back all that have been away for a while, and especially those who may be coming into the area to meet up with friends and family. With the holiday season rapidly approaching, make sure you keep your calendars up to date as there are many opportunities to enjoy the great outdoors and the fine weather that comes with it. For those that have an interest in the model railroad world, you will be able to find swap meets, open houses, the efforts of many model railroad clubs, and the fantasy of the holiday lights, an annual experience you must see, at the McCormick Stillman Railroad Park. Let’s not forget the Community Day at SunBird on November 9. I believe it will be open from 10:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. with many participating, and food close by to enjoy for a reasonable fee.
The Short Line Model Railroad Club has shifted gears somewhat, and has added to its agenda some more hands on type projects. We are always looking for new members, and now may be a good time to come join us. It’s a chance to not only learn about all the changes that have come into play over the years, but meet new friends, and share your experiences on the hobby that never gets old. We are just finishing up our second modular layout, where the participating club members each have a piece of the action. They each customize a short section to their liking at home, and the individual finished product becomes a scenic operating “N” scale model railroad layout with two operating trains running around on an eight foot table on completion.
Our next meeting is scheduled for November 12 and will take place in the SunBird Community Center located off Riggs Road. The meeting starts at 9:30 a.m. in the Lakeview room, and usually runs for an hour or two. As always, all interested parties are welcome. You don’t have to have a layout to become a member. If you have an interest, but still have doubts, give me a call, or better yet, send me an email containing information on how I can get back to you. If you have any questions regarding our club, or model trains in general, feel free to contact me by email at [email protected], or contact me at 480-802-4976. Look forward to getting to meet you all sometime during this exciting time of the year. Whether you’re a resident, having guests, or are just traveling, have a wonderful and safe Thanksgiving holiday.
