Safety First

Dan Russell, Chief of Patrol

I would like to say thank you to all the wonderful people who have welcomed me as the new Chief of Patrol in SunBird. One of the many reasons I chose to live in SunBird is because of the safe community that it is. As a member of the Patrol team, we look forward to continuing to be as proactive as possible to be a visual deterrent to crime within the community.

We cannot be a successful team without the continued support of our watchful community. One way we can continue to keep the community safe, is to not open the gates for people whom we may not know. Not everyone has a gate opener and may need to use the keypad to enter the front gate. Be kind, be patient, and give them the opportunity to do so. Using the keypad or enlisting the help of the on-duty guard to enter SunBird only enhances the safety of everyone involved. Currently, the guardhouse on Riggs Road and Championship Drive is staffed seven days a week from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m.

GPS is great but, unfortunately, it takes most people to the gate that is closest to your home. Please let your guests know they need to use the Riggs Road/Championship Drive entrance to enter SunBird safely. This includes Uber, Lyft, and any other delivery services as well. After guardhouse hours, there is a gate code on the Riggs Road/Championship Drive visitors’ keypad that can be utilized to contact the Roving Patrol unit on duty daily from 8 to 11 p.m. for entry into SunBird.

Safety tips:

* Get to know your neighbors.

* Make safe choices, lock your vehicles, lock your doors and windows, and close garage doors.

* Help Patrol by raising awareness and reporting unusual activities or suspicious people.

* As always, if it is a life-threatening or emergency situation, call 9-1-1.
