Unity Church of Sun Lakes is a New Thought community. We celebrate Peace, Love, Light, Joy, and Healing. We practice affirmative prayer and positive thinking, and we support one another in living a Spirit-centered life. Rev. Jeanne MacLaughlin is our spiritual leader. In reading a past copy of Unity Magazine 2018, I came across an article by Rev. Thomas W. Shepherd about the life of May Rowland (1890-1977). At the age of 26, she succeeded Myrtle Fillmore as director of Silent Unity and served in that position until she retired in 1971. She wrote about the work of Silent Unity in a Unity pamphlet titled Come Ye Apart Awhile. She was a centered, poised person with a soft voice, and she radiated a kind of glow. Under her leadership, Silent Unity became a place of solace for those who sought peace. What might she have to say about international terrorism, continuing armed conflicts around the globe, and increasing acts of violence against innocent people? With undaunted optimism, she would say, “Have you realized that there are people in every nation on the earth who love all humanity, people who are seeking to bring peace, understanding, and brotherhood into the world in which we live? No leader nor group of leaders can thrust peace upon us. It is first an individual matter.” These are the very words of May Rowland. Finally, she says, “Faith is never passive. Do not delude yourself. Get busy.” It is up to each of us to be strong and know that God is bigger than any conflict we can imagine. Each One, keep faith, it’s not too late. The world was a better place for having May Rowland in it.
Activities: Church is at 10 a.m. on Sunday in the Arts & Crafts Room at Sun Lakes 1 Country Club, 25601 S. Sun Lakes Blvd. Look for the directional signs to the covered parking area and the meeting room.
