Men’s Golf Club

6th: Jamess Morgan, Duane Dub, Denine Smulan, Karen Hall

7th: Bob Gerber, Viva Smith, Shirley Goldade, Jim Anderson

The Season Champions and SunBird Cup winners were announced and acknowledged after lunch. Cindy Vig is this season’s Ladies Club Champion, and Bob Gerber is the Men’s Club Champion. Trish Carrel and Loren Wallace are this year’s divisional Sunbird Cup winners.

This year’s Conley Cup tournament between the Americans and Canadians was another close one, just as in 2024. Both the Men’s and Ladies’ divisions were won by the Americans. Thank you to all those who organized and volunteered during the three-day tournament. Patrick Leach, Mike Goldade, and their group of “floaters” did a great job of keeping track of the scoreboard in the parking lot at the 18th green over the three days. Even if you do not participate in the event, it is exciting to mill around in the lot to see up-to-date scores after various holes, as well as to watch the play at the 18th green every day as each team comes in.

Regarding the new Men’s Club business, the 2024-25 play schedule is finalized and posted outside the Pro Shop. New for the coming season there will be a special event on Thanksgiving Day for those who want to sign up. The game will be a “Wolf” format.

The golf course itself will undergo a bit of a makeover during the summer. There will be artificial grass mats installed in one section of the driving range that should enhance the warm-up experience as well as give the grass area a bit of a “break.” Also, the tee box at hole 8 is going to be redone, and the final result will provide a configuration similar to the box at hole 17.

Kelly Davis, Jeff Seaman, and their small group of volunteers already have a list of projects lined up for the summer that will further beautify our course. This group does a lot of hard work that benefits the course and the club, and we give a huge thank you to the entire group.

This is the last Men’s Club newsletter until the fall. We snowbirds will be looking forward to getting back to SunBird and reconnecting with you full-timers and fellow snowbirds. The next meeting is Nov. 4. Hope to see you then!
