SunBird Lions Club welcomed two new members: Chuck Heitbrink and LuVan Tran Van Don, who became a Lion in Paris, then moved to Virginia, and we now welcome as a SunBird Lion.
Lion Carol Zittel, who heads our flag program, has now expanded to 648 flags. If anyone is interested in having a flag placed at their home, please call Lion Carol at 480-883-0958. Flags are put up for all national holidays. Pamphlets explaining the program are also available in the clubhouse. Volunteers are needed to distribute and take down flags as well.
Lion Gail Holland can be reached at 480-883-7310 if medical equipment needs to be borrowed. Lion Gail recently helped 29 people in need of wheelchairs, walkers, commodes, etc.
You will find pails placed on the patio by the small pool and by the post office and Pro Shop to place your aluminum cans. Lion Ray Clark will pick them up and take them to be recycled. Monies will benefit the Lions Club’s many projects.
Lion Ray also collects eyeglasses, frames, hearing aids, and equipment that serves the low vision, blind, and hearing impaired. You can drop off at the SunBird office or call Lion Ray at 480-832-5340. Lion Ray recently collected 5,900 pairs of glasses. Thank you to all who donated.
On Dec. 29 the comedy show Patsy to Patsy will be presented in the SunBird ballroom. It is a fun-filled two-hour show that begins at 7 p.m. Doors open at 6 p.m. There will be an open bar. The tables can be reserved for eight people. Tickets for this show will be $15. Tickets will be available by contacting any Lion member or by calling Fred Garmeson at 480-895-9363.
Look for the many Lion activities that will soon be announced. With the world opening up again, we look forward to all the fun times and making SunBird Lions a club that continues to honor its motto, “We Serve.”
