On April 11 the Chandler Sunbird Lions and the Basha High School LEO Club sponsored their long delayed annual Basha High School Band Concert. The concert, usually scheduled in January, was delayed this year due to a change in music directors at the school. New Music Director, Mr. Nathan Johnston, was able to put a great show together when you consider that he didn’t even know he was supposed to put on a concert until the end of January.
The jazz band got the show rocking with five numbers including Dave Brubeck’s Take Five and Billy Strayhorn’s Take the A Train.
The concert band changed things up with five more songs including Summertime from Porgy and Bess and God Bless America. The audience was also treated to an original composition by renowned composer and conductor, Maestro Fred Garmeson (tongue firmly planted in cheek).
Admission was free and donations were collected at the door. The audience showed their appreciation for the talents of these young musicians by donating $615 for the Basha High School Music Department.
