Dave White, General Manager
For those of you who are away for the summer in the cooler climates, I will fill you in on what has been going on at the SunBird Golf Course.
Our new driving range mats are working out well. I see we are saving some manpower on maintaining the grass portion of the range. It looks like eight out of ten who are using the range hit off the mats.
The turf crew and our faithful volunteers have been working for the past few months on fixing some more bare spots in the fairways by punching, sanding, mulching, and putting down Bermuda seed. Last year we did the same thing, and there was a big improvement which we hope to see again. By opening up the ground and getting nutrients into the holes, along with the seed, it will make a good base for the rye grass we put down in overseed.
During July, we went after some of our eyesore spots on holes 2, 6, 7, 13, and 18. These were sodded with a mid-iron Bermuda, and as of right now, they look great.
As some of you know, the Bandits made a donation to expand the white and blue teeing ground on hole 8, which is now completed and healing with new sod. A big thank you to the Bandits!
As I write this, our overseed donations are over $11,000, and 99 have donated. Remember, all donations go into overseed.
The golf course looks healthy and our rounds are up for the year, and so with that, I will sign off.
