Going Green Committee news

Treva Christenson

We hope everyone had a safe and happy holiday season and wish everyone a happy and healthy 2016.

We are holding our fourth Shredding Day March 17, St. Patrick’s Day 2016. We will hold the event in the Waterview parking lot. We ask that you save your documents in boxes the size of banker’s boxes (letter or legal size). These boxes are easy to handle and you can take them home and reuse them.

Each month Phoenix Fibers, located in Chandler, converts over 300 tons of denim and other cotton fabric into “shoddy fiber” which is then manufactured into many different products. Items collected include unusable towels, sheets, clothing, shoes, etc. Recycling these items not only helps the environment by reducing the amount of old stuff going into the landfills, it also helps us to raise money for SunBird. We receive $.10 per pound for the donated fibers.

The Going Green Committee normally meets on the first Thursday of the month at 2:00 p.m. We’re looking for new members so if you are interested, come to our meeting on January 7 at 2:00 p.m.

The recycling bin is located in the Waterview parking lot.
