Just a reminder – On Wednesday, March 18 a representative of the Arizona Attorney General’s office will give a one-hour presentation on consumer scams and some general Identification theft safety tips. An abbreviated version of the Third Wednesday Coffee where Layne usually gives SunBird updates will begin at 10:00 a.m. that day in the front part of the Ballroom. The scam presentation will begin immediately after the Wednesday Coffee.
We are holding a Shredding Day from 8:00-10:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 26. We will hold the event in the Waterview parking lot. We ask that you save your documents in boxes the size of banker boxes (letter or legal size). These size boxes are easy to handle and you can take them home and reuse them.
Phoenix Fibers will also have a truck at SunBird on the Shredding Day from 9:00-10:00 a.m. Each month Phoenix Fibers, located in Chandler, converts over 300 tons of denim and other cotton fabric into ‘shoddy fiber’ which is then manufactured into many different products. Items collected include unusable towels, sheets, clothing, shoes, etc. Recycling these items not only helps the environment by reducing the amount of old stuff going into the landfills, it can help us raise money for SunBird. We receive $.10 a pound the donated fibers. To date, this project has brought in $940.10. If you bring your donated items between 9:00-10:00 a.m. that morning, your name will be placed in a drawing for two free breakfasts or lunches at the Horizon Room (not to exceed $15).
Scott Smith, a Going Green committee member, has volunteered to accept electronic equipment (computers, cell phones, etc.) from SunBird residents. He will determine whether they can be donated to schools for refurbishing, donated to needy organizations, or destroyed. You are welcome to bring such items to his house.
