FUN da MENTAL Bridge is offering a variety of Bridge classes starting in October. Learn with certified ACBL Better Bridge instructors Gordon Markham, Karin Hansen, and Maria Davis.

Back by popular demand! Have fun. Exercise your brain. Hundreds of your neighbors have taken stimulating FUN da MENTAL Bridge lessons.

Beginning Bridge. Friday mornings from 9 to 11:15 at Risen Savior Lutheran Church, 23914 S. Alma School Road, from Oct. 28 through Dec. 9. Six sessions—no class on Nov. 25. The cost is $72 plus textbooks, which are available at a discount from the instructor. An introduction to modern bridge, learning the fundamentals, and some common conventions. A perfect class for a true beginner or those who have not played in recent years. After attending this class, participants will be ready to play with any bridge group. This class requires a minimum of eight participants to be registered by Oct. 20 in order to conduct the class, so please contact instructor Karin Hansen at [email protected] or 612-242-8593, to register as soon as possible.

Competitive Bidding. Monday mornings from 9 to 11:15 in Cottonwood Room A-7, from Oct. 10 through Nov. 14—no class on Oct. 31. Five sessions, $60 plus text. Text and coded cards are available at a discount from the instructor. Bridge is a bidder’s game! This course will give you several options to get into the auction with less than opening count,and/or when the opponents have opened first. The five sessions cover weak 2 bids, takeout doubles, overcalls/advances, competitive auctions, and a review session. Individual weeks are available for $20 each. Basic Defense. Friday mornings from 9 to 11:30 in Cottonwood Room A-6, from Oct. 14 through Dec. 16—no class on Nov. 25 or Dec. 2. Eight sessions, $96 plus text. Coded cards are also available. When playing bridge, half of the time you are on defense. Learn which card you should play for an opening lead, which card you should play in the second or third position, and how to (legally) communicate with your partner through effective card signals and how to make a plan for defense.
