Footnotes from the library

Nancy Smith

Recently, I read a very new old book. Yes, it was both new AND old. It was Jack London’s The Call of the Wild, written in 1903.

Admit it now, didn’t your school English teacher make it “required reading”? It had all the basics of a thrilling adventure: good guys, bad guys, greedy folks after gold, the frozen north of Alaska and a hero – the dog.

This story was beautifully illustrated. But you won’t find it in our regular fiction. It was listed as a juvenile classic, and you’ll find it in the juvenile section.

We would like to keep this treasure in our SunBird Library, and we ask you to return it and all other SunBird Library items.

Please do not take our library items out of state. They just never find their way home.
