SunBird Golf Resort is a semi-private course that welcomes public players. When the golf club was first started, we had active members numbering between 350 and 400. The Golf Club currently has approximately 240 members, both residents and non-residents. We all continue to age, and some relocate as family concerns and physical issues arise. We are actively seeking enthusiastic golfers to join our club as new residents arrive.

The SunBird Golf Club is responsible for maintenance of the golf course as well as the green grass you see as you enter the front gate. This picture has drawn many of us to the Arizona sunshine and into the community we love. It is one of the many amenities that make living in SunBird so pleasant.

In 2020 the Golf Club paid $1.02 per pound for grass seed used in overseeding. In 2021 the Golf Club paid $2.10 per pound for grass seed used in overseeding. Prices seem to continue to increase substantially. In 2022 the Golf Club will be paying $3 per pound, which is the current price for grass seed.

It takes 700 pounds of grass seed to seed the tees only, 900 pounds of grass to seed the greens only, 875 pounds of grass to seed the fairways only, and 12,240 to seed the roughs and other areas for wall-to-wall seeding.

The lovely lakes throughout our community are really water retention ponds for all of the water running off of the streets in SunBird after a rainstorm. This last Christmas and New Year’s was a graphic example of this. These ponds also collect all of the dust and dirt from the properties in our community. They have been doing an adequate job for 30 years. After all of these years, the retention ponds are in need of our help.

You are living in one of the lowest cost HOA communities on Riggs Road. Our dues are at least $300 less per year than any other HOA around. We applaud the HOA’s stewardship of our funds.

That in March a town hall meeting has been tentatively scheduled to address some of these issues and concerns in keeping our community green and healthy. Please plan on attending with questions and perspective. We know costs have been rising everywhere. SunBird is no exception.
