Desert Navy Update

Richard Volpe

The Desert Navy’s scheduled meetings run from September up through May, and although, officially, our meetings are put on hold during the summer months, our doors are never closed for those in need or who require support. In season, meetings are held on the third Friday of the month, normally held in the back room of the IHOP restaurant located in the Target Shopping Center off Arizona Avenue. During normal scheduling, meetings start at 11 a.m. During the summer months, weekly lunches will continue on Tuesdays at 2 p.m., at the same location as stated above.

One of the major goals of the Desert Navy is to help those in need of assistance following an unexpected accident, or the need for something that will improve a person’s daily quality of life with the use of something we have immediate access to, such as a motorized vehicle or a wide assortment of supplies that can be discussed by just making a phone call to the number listed below. Our club has access to a few storage areas that are close by and are well supplied for short-term relief for mobility problems or more, for those with severe handicaps—all just a phone call away if a need arises.

The Desert Navy welcomes all veterans who have served time in the Navy, Marines, Coast Guard, and Merchant Marines. It is a great opportunity to meet up with some new friends and possibly run across some of your older ones whom, over the years, you have lost touch with. When possible, we do have guest speakers come out to speak on a wide variety of topics that help us all stay abreast of some opportunities that may be available that we weren’t aware of.

If you have any questions regarding membership or are looking for additional information regarding medical supplies that are available, please feel free to give Rich Volpe a call. He can be reached at 480-802-2532. Rich and his staff have helped many in the past, and I’m sure he would be happy to talk to you.

Have a healthy, safe, and enjoyable summer. Hopefully, we may cross paths in the not-too-distant future.
