Demystifying Dementia

Since Sun Lakes became a Dementia Friendly Community, hundreds of Sun Lakes residents have taken the Dementia Friend Info class. Join us in September to better understand dementia and learn how to best help friends, neighbors, and associates living with it or those caregiving for a spouse or loved one. There are still many neighbors in our community who have not yet been educated. We would love to help!

Dementia is an overall term that describes a wide range of symptoms associated with a decline in memory of other thinking skills, severe enough to reduce a person’s ability to perform everyday activities.

Join presenter Polly Smith, Sun Lakes Dementia Friendly Task Force member, on Thursday, Sept. 12, at 10:30 a.m. in the Education building in Room 1 at Sun Lakes United Methodist Church located at 9248 E. Riggs Road, in Sun Lakes.

Each session lasts one hour and explains the five key messages and helps attendees understand Dementia Friends and what it means to be one.

The goal is to help community members understand dementia, become less intimidated by interacting with people living with it, and learn small ways they can make a difference for people living with dementia.
