The Sun Lakes Democratic Club will hold its monthly meeting on Monday, July 10, 2017, at 7:00 p.m. at the Sun Lakes Country Club, Navajo Room, located at 25601 E. Sun Lakes Blvd. N. The speaker will be Joan Greene, who has announced her candidacy for the Democratic nomination for U.S. House from CD 5. This seat is currently held by U.S. Representative Andy Biggs (R). Ms Greene will present her credentials and reasons for pursuing a run for Congress.
We will also address the various petitions circulating to put initiatives on the ballot for the November 2018 election. One concerns the voucher expansion for education access that will impact our public schools. The Save Our Schools (SOS) effort will be discussed. The other initiatives concern the ability of Arizona citizens to put initiatives on the ballot as granted by the Arizona Constitution. The legislature has passed three bills to limit or redefine how this can be done.
The Sun Lakes Democratic Club collects non-perishable food items for Matthew’s Crossing Food Bank. Please bring your tax-deductible contributions to the drop off area in the west parking lot from 6:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. The club collected 70 pounds of food in May, along with cash donations of $60.00. The totals for the year are $639.60 of food and $249.00 in cash. Ask for a receipt. We appreciate all you do.
Everyone is welcome to attend the Sun Lakes Democratic Club meeting, held the second Monday of the month. Light refreshments are served.
