Helen Seaton, Publicity Director

The Computer Booters Club will meet on Wednesday, May 11, from 1 to 3 p.m. From 12:30 to 1 p.m. there will be time for socializing. This will be a hybrid meeting. The face-to-face session will be in the Cottonwood Ceramics Room, but the program will also be available on Zoom. Members and first-time guests will be eligible for a door prize. The monthly workshop on May 18 will be Microsoft Word Basics. Bring your laptop. Rob Truman, Computer Booters web director, will give the workshop.

Our speaker this month is Bill James who will be presenting on Home Automation Security. With the increasing use of Wi-Fi enabled devices in your home, what are the pitfalls and what are the best practices to protect your privacy and security? All these topics will be discussed with time for Q&A. Bill has automated his home with all types of HA devices, from lightbulbs to laundry appliances, and has some real-world experiences to share regarding privacy and security. Bill’s presentation covers home networks and automation, hackers, privacy, Smart TVs and security, and your router and home automation devices.

Bill belongs to the Windows Insider Program and frequently gives presentations on new software to his club and is the go-to person on everything Android. He is broadening his knowledge base with learning the Chromebook OS, the MacOS, and iOS for Apple products. As a member of APCUG’s Speakers Bureau, he frequently gives presentations to member groups on Windows 10, Chromebook, Android devices, home automation, and synchronizing devices. He currently serves as the APCUG (Association of Personal Computer User Groups) Region 8 Advisor (Oklahoma, Kansas, Missouri, Louisiana, Tennessee, Alabama) and VP of operations for his home club, the Computer Club of Oklahoma City.
