The Community Church of SunBird takes missions seriously. Jesus said in Mark 16:15, “Go into all the world and preach the good news to all creation.” We strive to take this directive to heart. Beginning February 23, Community Church of SunBird will feature a different mission opportunity each week. This will continue through the month of March. We are committed to extend the love of Christ locally and around the world.
Some of the ministries we support include the following:
Hamilton High School homeless and economically-challenged students have found a special place in our hearts. We work with a network of individuals and businesses to provide basic needs for these students and their families. This program encourages students to stay in school, focus on their studies, and graduate by alleviating some of their stress. We provide things like water, snacks, school supplies, hygiene products, and even shoes. This is a ministry we hope to continue as long as we are able.
Also, we support our local Salvation Army in Chandler financially, as well as collecting personal hygiene items for the homeless and the working poor.
Pastor John Kaites founded Christ Foundation, LLC, to minister to different groups here and around the world. This year, we supported one of Christ Foundation’s many ministries here in Phoenix called DUCK, Downtown Urban Community Kids. DUCK provides after school programs for inner-city kids in Phoenix. DUCK helps with homework, tutoring, and offers after school arts and sports. Their mission is to transform neighborhoods through learning, laughing, and love. Pastor Kaites will be here on March 22 to share more of his ministries.
This year, we reached around the world with Samaritan’s Purse, Operation Christmas Child, packing 150 shoeboxes for children. This ministry is tailored to children ages 2 to 14. These shoe boxes are filled with school supplies, hygiene items, special gifts, toys, and a personal note about Jesus’ love. It’s a wonderful way to spread the joy of Christ during the holiday season to children around the world.
We support CIRA, The Center for Islamic Research and Awareness, whose mission is to bring the “Good News” of the Gospel to Muslims here in the U.S. and in Western Europe. Pastor Al Fadi will kick off the six weeks of missions on February 23.
We also support GTN, Global Training Network, whose primary ministry is to train new pastors in essential doctrine, vital Christian character, and practical ministry skills. GTN operates in many countries where the culture is very different from ours. Not only do they teach these new pastors how to read and understand the Bible, they teach them how to be good spouses, good parents, and good neighbors. Please come and listen to Dr. Jim Baugh on March 15 expound upon this ministry in detail.
A few of the local ministries that we support are SunBird Helping SunBird and Neighbors Who Care. We also support Hospice of the Valley through Pastor David Walker. He will be here March 29 to conclude our March ministries series.
Please join us for the next six weeks to hear and learn about these unique ministries. This is a perfect opportunity to be the “hands and feet” of Christ in our local community and around the world.
