Cheers Social Group Activities

Cheers Trip Opportunities: Several Cheers members decided, independently, that this past month was a good time to visit Palm Springs, while several others were off to Hawaii and California.

Closer to home, several members took advantage of Spring Training and attended a Diamondbacks-Cubs game at Sloan Field. It proved to be a real fun night with plenty of food included and, depending on whom you rooted for, a great evening. The D-backs won 4 to 1.

The overnight Mystery Tour was so successful that it is now a regular tour. The Palm Springs Getaway Tour is a three-day, two-night tour Nov. 13-15, 2024, that includes the aerial tramway, Sunnydale Garden & Center, and the Village Fest, among other attractions. The cost is $925 per person double and $1,285 per person single. There will be a two-night Mystery Tour Sept. 25-27, 2024, which should be a lot of fun. The cost is $850 per person double and $1,175 per person single.

As for future trips, we are exploring a cruise that embarks from Venice, Italy, and sails the Dalmatian Coast (Croatia, Serbia, Montenegro) before returning to Venice. We are looking at a 2025 sailing. It’s a true sailing ship with 54,000 square feet of sails and up to 227 guests in a yacht-like ambience. If you think this might interest you, contact Richard Lewin at 609-332-3915 and indicate your interest. The European Union has delayed the requirement for entry visas.

Cheers travel itineraries are open to all, since we utilize and partner with licensed travel agents. For more information, call Richard Lewin at 609-332-3915 or Donna Clucky at Free Spirit Vacations at 480-926-5547, Ext. 2.

Monthly Wine Tasting: On the second Wednesday of each month, a club member hosts a wine tasting and potluck dinner in their home. Advance registration is required, and an $8 fee per person is collected to provide funds for the purchase of a variety of wine, selected and presented by the host/hostess. Lorene Roberts serves as the activity leader, supporting and assisting monthly hosts.

Hamilton High School Donations: Cheers provides charitable support to needy students at Hamilton High School. Voluntary donations of food, household items, and/or cash are provided monthly. If preferred, one may write a check directly to Hamilton High School, specifying which activity you wish your contribution to be credited to. These donations are coordinated by Sally Wegryn, who can be reached at 203-470-0733, in collaboration with Hamilton Social Work staff, and are greatly appreciated in our community.

Dine Out: On the fourth Wednesday of each month, members dine out together at a selected restaurant in the community. This activity, coordinated by Robert Russo, provides opportunity to try new restaurants and perhaps new types of cuisine in the company of friends. Advance registration is required to confirm restaurant reservations.

Book Club: This group meets every third Tuesday at the Oakwood Library.
