Cheers Trip Opportunities: Several of our members escaped the heat and enjoyed themselves at the Pageant of the Masters in Laguna Beach, Calif. The combined art shows and evening presentations in which the actors recreate famous pieces of art is always interesting.
Later this year, the very popular Albuquerque Balloon Festival on Oct. 12 to Oct. 15, and the Rose Parade on New Year’s Day in Pasadena will be held. Free Spirit Vacations is offering several options on both itineraries.
There are several exciting trips planned for 2024, including a Danube River Cruise, which we are looking to finalize. This trip will be from Vilshofen, Germany, to Budapest, Hungary, Oct. 9 to Oct 16, 2024. There are extensions available, with optional stays in Munich, Prague, and Budapest. There is special pricing for singles up until Sept. 30, 2023, with fare of 20% above double rate. Special airfare pricing plus additional incentives are also available. A deposit of $400 reserves your space. October is a great time to travel, as most tourists are gone and the cooler weather is more conducive to exploring.
Additional trips of interest are The Hawaiian Adventure, May 16 to May 26, 2024, including three islands; and Six Scenic Trains in Colorado, visiting three national parks, July 19 to July 26, 2024. Cruise lines and tour companies are currently booking travel for 2024 and 2025, as 2023 itineraries have mostly been filled.
Cheers travel itineraries are open to all, since we utilize and partner with licensed travel agents. For more information, call Richard Lewin at 609-332-3915 or Donna Clucky at Free Spirit Vacations at 480-926-4447, Ext. 2.
Monthly Wine Tasting: On the third Wednesday of each month, a club member hosts a wine tasting and potluck dinner in their home. The September Wine Tasting will be Sept. 13. Advance registration is required, and an $8 fee per person is collected to provide funds for the purchase of a variety of wine, selected and presented by the host/hostess. Lorene Roberts serves as the activity leader, supporting and assisting monthly hosts.
Hamilton High School Donations: Cheers provides charitable support to needy students at Hamilton High School. Voluntary donations of food, household items, and/or cash are provided monthly. If preferred, one may write a check directly to Hamilton High School, specifying which activity you wish your contribution to be credited to. These donations are coordinated by Sally Wegryn, who can be reached at 203-470-0733, in collaboration with Hamilton Social Work staff, and are greatly appreciated in our community.
Dine-Out: On the fourth Wednesday of each month, members dine out together at a selected restaurant in the community. This activity, coordinated by Robert Russo, provides opportunity to try new restaurants and perhaps new types of cuisine in the company of friends. Advance registration is required to confirm restaurant reservations. The September Dine-Out will be Sept. 27, with the restaurant to be determined.
Book Club: This group meets once per month to discuss the selection made the previous month.
