Canadians migrate to SunBird

Despite the falling loonie, the Canadians have returned to “summer camp,” SunBird. This resort offers us such an exciting and active community lifestyle, far from the winter storms in the North. The season began with the greeting, “When did you arrive?” not just from fellow Canadians, but also from our many friends from all over the U.S. The multitude of activities provided by the HOA, clubs and organizations keep our calendars full. Yes, at our age, we must write it down.

Grey Cup was the first Canadian social event, our equivalent of the Big Football Game. The east, Ottawa, played the west, Calgary, in one of the most entertaining and well-matched football games ever. It ended with an overtime win for the Ottawa Red Blacks. With the aid of a Canadian satellite dish, the large screen in our Ballroom and the help of John and his crew we enjoyed the game and a delicious burger (not prepared in a certified kitchen).

Our next Canadian social gathering is the Pork Loin Barbecue on February 9. Mark it on your calendar. Last year this event drew a crowd of over 220. The final event of the year is the annual Great Canadian Golf Tournament on March 19. Remember to register for golf at the Barbecue. This year, the Canadian Club donated an event tent for activities on the golf course.

While you enjoy the many amenities that SunBird has to offer, don’t remind your friends back home about our balmy Arizona temperatures.
