Please arrive at least 15 minutes prior to game time.

If you are in need of a partner for any of the open games, please contact the Players’ Pairs Assistants, Eileen Utter, Kay Kennedy and Carol Warner, at [email protected]. Please try the email first if you have access to a computer. Fees for the game are $6.00 per person if you are a member of the club or $7.00 per person if not.

We would like to thank Richard Catero and Jim Wirt for initiating the Saturday “Splitz Blitz” program in which the advanced players are encouraged to play with those of lesser experience. This provides a great learning opportunity for those less-experienced players to learn from the better players. This will continue during the summer period. We would also thank the advanced players for joining in this endeavor. The dates for these games are July 6, Aug. 3, 17 and 31, and Sept. 7, 21 and 28.

Top games for this month are Dave Zapatka and Andi Parham with a 69.68% game, which ties with Donna Hofer and Marcia Aspinall. Great games!

Sun Lakes Duplicate Bridge Club – Novice and Intermediate

Karin Hansen

Summer is upon us, and the outside temperatures are soaring! But inside at the bridge table, temperatures are cool and so are the people! Playing duplicate bridge is a great way to meet new friends, challenge your brain and develop a hobby that can last for a lifetime. The Sun Lakes Duplicate Bridge Club offers several opportunities specifically geared for novice and intermediate players. These are regular, sanctioned, duplicate games with limited masterpoints. Games are held on Tuesday and Thursday at 1:30 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall at the Risen Savior Lutheran Church located at 23914 S. Alma School Road in Chandler. Doors open at 12:45 p.m., and you must arrive no later than 1:15 p.m. This game is for players with under 499 American Contract Bridge League (ACBL) masterpoints who are non-life masters. Players who are life masters or have more than 500 points may play at the same time in the open game run simultaneously at the same location. The cost for the game is $6 for members of the Sun Lakes Duplicate Bridge Club, $7 for non-members. To join the club, dues are $10 per year. Please see a director for an application form or contact Jim Utter at [email protected]. You must have a partner to play in the duplicate game. If you need assistance in finding a partner, contact [email protected] or call Eileen Utter at 480-802-8300, Kay Kennedy at 480-496-6179 or Carol Warner at 618-514-0556, and they will be happy to help you.

During the winter season from October through June, a special teaching game is offered on Thursday mornings. This game is for players with fewer than 99 points and beginning players who are not members of the ACBL. More information about this group is available by contacting Anne Newman at [email protected]. General questions about the intermediate and novice program of the Sun Lakes Duplicate Bridge Club may be sent to Karin Hansen at [email protected]. June was an excellent month for many of our game bridge players. Here are the top scores from the games: in the 99er game on June 20, John and Shari Smart had a 71.67% game, while on the June 6 afternoon Non-Life Master game, Barb Hewitt and Frank Maresso had a 71.06%. John and Shari Smart also had the top game in the Tuesday Non-Life Master game on June 4 with a score of 67.82%. On June 25, LindaLee Jorgensen and Lou Weiss scored 67.81% in the 499er game. Congratulations to these and all the players who had great games during the month of June. Keep up the good work, and see you at the tables!
