Board of Directors Notes

Layne Varney

Board of Directors meetings were held in October, and the following are notes from the business meeting.

The business meeting of the board was held on Oct. 28, at 10 a.m. in the ballroom. Directors Nancy Eckstein, Linda DiPalma, Dan Buescher, and Gordon Lee were present. Tammy Bachofner and Shirley Clark were both excused. The meeting was called to order at 10 a.m., and the minutes from the previous meetings were reviewed and approved as presented.

The manager’s report was made by Layne Varney. Thanks to all those who helped with the wonderful holiday decorations. The collections report was presented and is in good status. Home Sales: 10 homes sold during the month of November, 116 for the year. The Food and Beverage operations report was presented. The clubhouse flooring completion list is nearing completion, and the installation of the dual-paned windows for southwest section of the Horizon Room is completed. The clubhouse swimming pool steps were repaired, and one of the three heaters was replaced. Chair coverings in the Horizon Room were updated to coordinate with the new colors and décor, and they are looking for an alternative area for the landscape trailer. They are in the process of completing the year-end reports and working with the auditor for the annual independent financial audit.

The Committee Liaison reports were given.

Nancy Eckstein gave a PowerPoint presentation on the proposed changes to the Book of Governance, Committees of the Association, and Book of Policies #5 and #10. The purpose of this was to unify the language in both documents and have committee members follow the same code of ethics as the Board of Directors. Linda made the motion to accept the proposed changes, which passed 4 to 0.

Rules Committee Chair Chris Nechvatal and committee member Marianna Buescher gave a presentation on the committee’s proposed changes to the signage for the swimming pool and jacuzzi, as well as changes to the Rules and Regulations Manual regarding the swimming pools, jacuzzi, and smoking. This updates the swimming pool rules and separates the signage of the SunBird pool rules and the additional pool rules, as required by the Maricopa County Environmental Services. Linda made the motion to accept the proposed changes, which passed 4-0.

Layne Varney reviewed the homeowner comment sheets.

Comments were made by homeowners and directors.

The meeting was adjourned at 11:40 a.m. by President Nancy Eckstein.

The next Board of Directors Organizational meeting will be held Monday, Jan. 6, at 10 a.m. in the ballroom.

The next Board of Directors Agenda Planning meeting is scheduled for Monday, Jan. 13, at 10 a.m., and the Business meeting on Monday, Jan. 27, at 10 a.m., both in the ballroom. All are welcome to attend!
