In the coming months, the AAUW (American Association of University Women) Southeast Valley Branch (SEV) will continue to offer events and programs to help our community’s young girls and women in a variety of ways. Here are a few highlights of what’s coming:
In December, the Southeast Valley Branch will wrap up the year with the organization’s annual Red Envelope Holiday Fundraiser, a holiday brunch at the Sun Lakes Country Club. Proceeds from this special event for members and friends will benefit women and girls through national advocacy, education, philanthropy, and research.
On Jan. 15, 2024, SEV members will participate in the Period Packing Service Project. They will prepare period kits for girls from several local schools to ensure these youngsters are able to attend school consistently. Why this project? Because AAUW is committed to supporting girls and women’s health initiatives, including the reduction of “period poverty”—a term that describes when financial circumstances or inadequate education hinders access to menstrual hygiene products. Coming in February, SEV members will present a Happy Hour Fashion Show, the organization’s largest fundraiser of the year and to which the community will be invited. Proceeds from this annual event on Feb. 2, 2024, will benefit women who will begin or resume their college education at Chandler-Gilbert Community College.

AAUW Southeast Valley Branch serves Chandler, Gilbert, and Sun Lakes. SEV members and guests meet monthly from October through April at Sun Lakes United Methodist Church on Riggs Road.

Our local Southeast Valley Branch of AAUW was chartered in 1989. AAUW is a national organization open to all graduates holding an associate or equivalent, baccalaureate, or higher degree from a qualified educational institution. There are more than 170,000 members across 1,000 local branches.
