The CRAB tournament, a tournament consisting of 30-person teams from the Canadians, Roadrunners, Americans and Bandits, playing in a head to head competition, will take place on Saturday, November 22 at the SunBird Golf Course. Each of the 30 foursomes will consist of a member of each of the four teams. The foursomes are set up based on handicaps. A total of 10 points are awarded to each foursome with the lowest score awarded four points, second lowest three points, third lowest two points and the highest score one point. The championship is awarded to the team that has the most total points. The 2013 champion Canadians look forward to the challenge of defending their championship. Remember, 30 golfers are needed for each team. If you have not signed up and would like to, please see your respective team committee members who are Canadians – Wes Akerman and Kenly Matheson, Roadrunners – Norm Ott and Bill Johnson, Americans – Jack Cooper and Bandits – John Kane and Lew Lepore.
Again this year, there will be a pretournament party and auction held on Friday, November 21 starting at 3:00 p.m. on the clubhouse patio. All proceeds from the tournament and auction are presented to the SunBird Club for use on capital projects. The proceeds have totaled about $20,000 over the last two years thanks to the many contributions of items to be sold and to the efforts of auctioneer Joel Sybesma. The party and auction are open to both tournament participants and other members of the community that would like to bid on the items being sold or would just like to witness this entertaining event. The success of this auction is dependent, in part, on the number of items put up for sale. Donations of new or used, good condition golf or other items are needed, solicited and much appreciated. Please check with the committee members listed above for details on donations.
