Welcome to another New Year for everyone. Congratulations to the American team on winning the CRAB Tournament for 2015 (this was the first time they had won this event). In November and December we hosted two of our popular annual tournaments: The CRAB Tournament and the SunBird Open. Both were very successful and well attended. A special thank you to all the players and volunteers that were involved in making both events a great success by raising money for special projects on the golf course. The CRAB Tournament had an auction on the night before the tournament with Joel Sybesma as the auctioneer. The CRAB Tournament helped raise $18,577 between the auction and tournament events. The SunBird Open helped raise $8534 from the tournament and community sponsors. Once again we thank all the volunteers, sponsors and players that helped with the tournament. On a sad note, SunBird Golf Club lost a special friend that always put her best efforts into making the SunBird Open a great event – we will miss you, Connie Dreyer.
Upcoming events for the next month include the Members Tournament scheduled for January 23. A weekly golf clinic starting January 13: Wednesdays with Dennis Allan, PGA on at 2:00 p.m. or on Thursdays with Brian Crawford at 11:00 a.m. The clinics will cover various topics including putting, chipping and irons over several weeks. Sign up in the Pro Shop to join the clinics. On January 29 at 2:00 p.m. we have the Ladies League Gross Shootout. This is a nine hole elimination match until one player is declared the winner. The shootouts are open to the public to come out and watch and see some great golf. If you would like to take a guided tour of the golf facility, they are on the third Friday of the month at 4:00 p.m. down at the driving range. Check with the Pro Shop for more information.
New tee time booking process is in effect. Members classified as “21er’s” may book 10 days in advance, reclassified members may book nine days in advance, annual members may book eight days in advance and all others may book seven days in advance. The Pro Shop is open daily from 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.; call in times start at 8:00 a.m. Tee times/shotguns start at 9:00 a.m.; on Sunday we have tee times all day with twilight starting at 1:00 p.m. Monday through Saturday shotguns will start at 9:00 a.m. and tee times will start at 1:00 p.m. except for Tuesday and Wednesday when we have an afternoon shotgun start at 1:00 p.m. We will continue to run our nine hole golf special in the afternoon (after 2:00 p.m. except on Tuesday and Wednesday) for $12 walking (please note that we do not include rental carts for this special, but you may use your own carts and receive this rate). This is a great way to get out and play a little golf in the afternoon when it is quiet and spend some time with a friend or work out the frustrations of the day with a relaxing round of golf. The Pro Shop has many new items for sale and closeout specials. Come check out the SunBird logo items like hats, shirts and towels. There are some nice sun hats for lounging around the new pool and Sketchers shoes which can be worn for golf or everyday activity.
