New Members Join SunBird Lions
During the March meeting, the SunBird Lions welcomed three new members: Sherri McElhaney, Sherry Dils, and Ruth King-Cole. President Chuck Heitbrink led the induction ceremony, officially bringing them into the club. Please join us in congratulating our newest members and encouraging them as they begin their journey with the SunBird Lions.

Last Call: Lions Bingo Nights Come to an End
After nearly three decades, the SunBird Lions have decided to end their Bingo program. Over the years, participants created lasting memories, with winners enthusiastically calling out “Bingo!” and celebrating not only their victories but also their support for the Lions. Even as Bingo was offered twice a month, attendance gradually declined, which led to the difficult decision to conclude the event last month.
The SunBird Lions extend heartfelt gratitude to the hundreds of players who participated and supported Bingo over the years. Please stay tuned for other exciting opportunities to support your SunBird Lions. Thank you for your continued involvement.
Earth Day and a Special Collection Day
Late in April, the SunBird Lions hosted a Special Collection Day dedicated to promoting recycling and waste management within the community. During the event, the Lions gathered a variety of items for donation and recycling, including glasses, readers, and sunglasses to be recycled and provided to those in need. The collection also featured empty aluminum cans, old blankets, and towels for the local animal shelter, as well as nonperishable food items for the AZCEND Food Bank.
Although a special day was set aside to raise awareness about recycling and donating, the SunBird Lions continue to collect these items year–round. They encourage everyone in the community to contribute to these ongoing efforts, as each donation helps make a positive difference for those in need. Special thanks to Lion Jana Haeffner.
Celebrating Lion Ethel Donoghue’s Birthday
Last month, Lion Ethel Donoghue celebrated her birthday, and the SunBird Lions marked the occasion with her. When Ethel was asked about how she commemorated her special day, she shared that she felt a bit tired from line dancing the night before. If you see Ethel, be sure to wish her a very Happy Birthday!

SunBird Lions Flag Program
Several times throughout the year, members of the Lions Club along with dedicated volunteers come together to repair and replace any damaged flags. This ongoing maintenance ensures that every flag is in excellent condition and ready for the next installation.
As a part of this program, the Lions will install a flag at your home and remove it seven times a year, each time coinciding with a special holiday. This is a meaningful way for residents to display their patriotism and show support for the Lions’ fundraising efforts.
If you are interested in taking part in the program, applications can be picked up at the HOA office or call Lion Carol Zittle at 480-883-0958 for more information. The suggested annual donation for this service is $45.
