Singers History and New Concert Schedule

In the early 2000s, the Singers group underwent a significant leadership transition. During this period, it became evident that the small spinet piano being used for concerts was insufficient to project sound throughout the ballroom. To resolve this issue, the Singers organized a Music Marathon with the objective of raising approximately $10,000. The funds were needed to purchase two identical upright grand pianos.

The fundraising effort was met with great enthusiasm and support. Individuals, SunBird clubs, various organizations, and additional contributors came together, allowing the group to achieve its goal in a short amount of time. With the successful acquisition of two new grand pianos for the ballroom, the original spinet piano was relocated to the Lakeview Room.

The pianos in the clubhouse are available for use by any individual or group. Those interested in utilizing these instruments can sign up on the schedule, which is located in the HOA office. As the pianos are owned by the HOA, they are regularly tuned and maintained to ensure their continued excellence and frequent use.

Further enhancing the group’s musical capabilities, a larger donation enabled the purchase of handbells and chimes. This expansion led to the formation of the Sunbird Ringers, a group comprised of members with the ability to read music and a desire to play these new instruments. Their involvement has added a valuable and distinctive dimension to the group’s concerts.

The next concert is scheduled for March 11 and 12. Preparations for this event will begin with practices starting on Monday, Jan. 5, from 4 to 6 p.m. in the ballroom. The Singers and Ringers welcome everyone to join. There are no auditions required. The only expectation is a commitment to attend each Monday practice. All are encouraged to participate and become an active part of the group.
