What a Christmas luncheon we had in December! We were entertained with Christmas favorites by SunBird’s favorite talented musicians, Wayne and Kate Chambers.
The cuisine Ala Kare Bear eclipsed the 2013 menu: Turkey, ham, oriental, potato, coleslaw and gelatin salads. Desserts to die for; brownies, cookies, pies, cakes and pumpkin bars. Exquisite cooks; what a feast!
Our speakers, Mary Regan and Margaret Ryan from Vincent De Paul, shared stories of how the needs of families are being met through donations such as ours. Margaret Ryan presented the Kare Bears with a Certificate of Appreciation and expressed gratitude from their staff and volunteers for the generosity of our SunBird community, but specifically for the consistent support from the Kare Bears.
Our party received a surprise when Santa and his elf stopped by to visit and kibitz with Mrs. Santa Claus and her girlfriends.
The first Kare Bear sponsored golf tournament was held on Saturday, January 10. The results of that tournament will be noted in the March issue of Sunbird News. Stay tuned!
The Kare Bear fair is Saturday, February 7 from 8:00 a.m.-12:30 p.m. There will be 40 plus vendors presenting their wares. Connie’s Jewelry will be doing watch repair and battery replacement. RADA knives will be in the house and I am assured by Ruth Jon that their potato peeler is a must have; and of course, we will have the white elephant table. A raffle will be held and coffee and donuts will be available.
Kare Bears will be hosting their second Sweet and Savory Extravaganza on Wednesday, February 25 from 4:00-6:00 p.m. This event was a huge success last year and those who attended were delighted with the palate pleasing appetizers and desserts prepared by our members: reason enough to mark the date! A cash bar will be available and a silent auction offering many items and services. Included are a valuable Kachina Hopi doll and a beautiful handmade quilt. Tickets may be purchased at the SunBird HOA office for only $7.50 each.
Our monthly meeting will be on Wednesday, February 18 at 1:00 p.m. We have an excellent speaker, Dr. Howard Fern, who has been a provider of chiropractic care for more than 20 years. Issues he has been focused on recently are the misuse of anti-aging medicine and the inordinate numbers of obese individuals. He will address the topic “Happy and Healthy for 55 plus,” subtitled “How to Prevent Illness and Increase Healing.”
In April we will have an open seat on our Board. Volunteers are requested for the nominating committee who will be seeking those who might be interested in serving. If that person is you, please contact Sherry Fann.
We again would like to thank the SunBird community for generously donating items to the club. We appreciate you!
A reminder that Kare Bears fundraiser profits are fully contributed to numerous commendable charities in Chandler. We are a benevolent group!
