Manager’s Report

During the year 2024, SunBird had 106 home sales within the community, which equates to 6.5% of the homes. The Welcoming and Marketing Committee does a great job in welcoming each new homeowner to SunBird. Further, each year the committee invites all new homeowners who purchased within the past year to an annual “Meet and Greet” banquet hosted in the ballroom. The purpose of the meeting is to formally welcome all and share information regarding the operations, facilities, services, activities, events, and how to get involved in SunBird. The committee collects prizes and giveaways from local vendors, stores, and services to share with our new residents for fun and to become familiar with local businesses. The committee does a fantastic job in making all feel welcome and a part of SunBird. We would like to thank them for this and all the other volunteers who help them with making all feel welcome and joining the SunBird community.

SunBird social and fun activities are booming. Tickets sales for events are going quickly and selling out. SunBird’s annual New Year’s Eve party was a blast, welcoming in the new year with good music, good times, and good friends. SunBird’s crazy and fun Chinese Auction was held this past month with maximum attendance and all sorts of wacky auction items. The Chili Cook-off was also a huge success, with a number of resident gourmet cooks entering into the elite competition of SunBird’s best chili. That same week the annual Community Auction was held outside the clubhouse on the patio with many auction items ranging from home-baked pies to golf carts. The month ended with two different great nights of live music concerts: “Shake Baby Shake,” a tribute to the golden year of the ‘50s and ‘60s, and “Soul Town,” a tribute to the smooth music of Motown, not to mention all of the bingo nights, Sunday Fun Day Football, trivia, and the Art & Sip events.

SunBird recreational facilities and activities are also in overdrive. Bean bag baseball league play started with more teams than ever. Corn toss league play has started again using the outside sport courts due to finding available space. The bocce ball league has also started with its fun and friendly competitive play. This year the SunBird Billiards League has joined the national BCA Pool League, sanctioned by CueSports International, enabling SunBird players to play in national tournaments and competitions. Pickleball and tennis are in full swing. The Shuffleboard League has started its fun play. The clubhouse Fitness Center is heavily used, with a wide variety of exercise equipment for all levels of fitness. Water volleyball, water aerobics, cardio drumming, and many other fitness classes are keeping us active. The SunBird Golf Club reports golf course play is great and that they are staying busy. As we are having fun and enjoying life, we are also staying in good shape.

At the end of January, common landscape areas were treated with an application of a blue/greenish-colored dye of pre-emergent weed spray. The color dissipates from the ground and rocks within a few days of sunlight. This treatment is applied twice annually, saturating into the dirt to help minimize future weed growth. The landscape crew has been trimming back some of the plants and bushes (bougainvillea and birds of paradise) that go dormant during the colder weather, losing leaves and flowers. These plants will begin to grow back rapidly when the temperatures begin to warm again through the summer months. During the spring months, most of the trees and plants wake up and begin to grow rapidly.

Each year SunBird contracts with an independent financial audit firm to conduct an audit of SunBird’s previous year’s financial records, reports, and transactions. The auditor reviews financial reports, bank statements, transactions, insurance, employees, tax reports and filings, board meeting minutes, and other association records. When the audit is completed, the auditor will present a report for the year 2024 at the annual meeting. The best opinion to receive from an auditor is an “unmodified opinion,” meaning the financial statements and accounting practices were found to be properly and fairly presented. Once the report is received from the auditor, it will be posted on SunBird’s website.

SunBird would not be SunBird without the many, many, many people who join and assist with the events and work. We truly appreciate our committees, clubs, class leaders, organizations, and many volunteers who work hard and volunteer their time and service to make SunBird a great place to live! Thank you!
