On Tuesday, December 2, Rotarian Don Robins will give a brief presentation about the SAE F1 in Schools program. High school students design, build and race model Formula One cars of the future. Brian Roach, the F1 in schools teacher at Hamilton High School, will bring some of his students to the meeting to demonstrate their vehicles. Hamilton High School is the first school in Arizona to introduce this new SAE STEM program. F1 in Schools is in 29 countries, and seven million students have experienced this life-changing experience. SAE-sponsored competition is also being scheduled for early December at Hamilton High School.
At the December 23 meeting, the Sun Lakes Chordaires Show Chorus will sing holiday music. The chorus, celebrating its 35th year, is an upbeat all-women a cappella singing group who sing in barbershop style. On Tuesday, December 30, the featured speaker will be Amanda Tucker; no, not the Amanda Tucker who is the Royal hairdresser for Kate and William – but the ASU Events Coordinator for TechShop. TechShop is a playground for creativity. Part fabrication and prototyping studio, part hacker space and part learning center, TechShop provides access to over $1 million worth of professional equipment and software. They offer comprehensive instruction and expert staff to ensure students have a safe, meaningful, and rewarding experience. Amanda will bring a PowerPoint presentation about the TechShop located in the ASU Chandler Innovation Center. This is the first TechShop in Arizona and it celebrated its first anniversary on November 15. Its motto is “Build Your Dreams Here.” The website at www.techshop.com tells about all the tools and equipment they have available. As Amanda says, “All you need is an idea and you can build it at the TechShop.”
