On Sunday, December 14 at its 10:00 a.m. morning service, the First Baptist Church of Sun Lakes’ choir will present The First Noel, an exciting Christmas musical by Joe E. Parks. This musical was inspired by a message delivered by Parks’ pastor, Dr. Wayne Barber, who was speaking from the scripture passage found in 1 Corinthians1:27: “God hath chosen the foolish (simple) things of the world to confound the wise…the weak things…to confound the mighty.” From there, he proceeded to Luke 2, the beloved Christmas story.
God didn’t choose a high Jewish holiday to present His only Son. It was a silent night. He selected a group of shepherds, men of low esteem, to receive the announcement. The birthplace was a lowly stable in an insignificant city. He came as a helpless babe instead of a mighty king riding on a white horse.
This service and cantata will be a meaningful, powerful prelude to Christmas. Of course, everyone is invited to the church, as they are every Sunday.
Supporting the choir will be narrator Tom Jones, pianist Elnerva Rentz, organist Jan Swan and flutist Linda Fisher, all under the leadership of Pastor George Shuttleworth.
