With the arrival of 2023 there is the feeling of renewed energy and positivity. COVID-19 seemed to have put the world in a tailspin, but the SunBird community held us all together, and now our new calendars have begun filling up with activities and opportunities that make this such a special place.
This month the SunBird Art Club members will be showcasing our challenge of Birds to be displayed in the showcase next to the library in the clubhouse. Each year we decide on a subject, and then the fun begins. It is always a treat to see what our members come up with; everything from very realistic depictions to ones that bring a sense of humor to the subject.
In January, Art Norby conducted a class with Flowers in the Style of Georgia O’Keeffe as our subject. The class was open to anyone interested in creating a piece of art and were encouraged to work in any medium of their choice. We are so lucky to have members who so willingly offer their knowledge and skills to us.
Spring brings art shows throughout the Valley, and we are looking forward to “road trips” as our members venture out for fun times of seeing and meeting fine artists in Arizona and, of course, enjoying having lunch after!
For anyone new to SunBird or maybe have always wanted to expand their experiences by taking up a new or continuing outlet, then our Art Club is here for you. We meet every Thursday morning from 9 a.m. to noon in the Hopi Room, which is upstairs in the clubhouse, and we welcome you to stop in and see if this is for you. We look forward to meeting and welcoming new and returning SunBirders!
