The members of the SunBird Lapidary Club are all hoping for a safe and healthy return and to pick up where we left off at the closing of the 2019-20 season. It was a most encouraging year of increased membership and new adventures into fused glass and reviving the art of lost wax jewelry making. The abrupt ending and closure of facilities and activities due to the impending pandemic, and the absence since then, has created a growing desire to get back and resume where we left off, and even more so, by releasing stored-up creative energies to express new and yet unknown creations.
So, the attention is now focused on the 2021-22 season which will begin on Nov. 5, our first meeting of the season. At that time, our instructors, all from our membership, will begin to schedule classes for the many lapidary arts, including rock cutting and polishing, fused glass, silversmithing, stained glass, wire wrapped jewelry, Ming trees, beading, and much more. Classes will be offered from November of 2021 through April of 2022 for SunBird residents and renters. For safety reasons, club membership is required to take classes and have access to the shop on the upper floor of the clubhouse. Other than materials for ones’ projects (glass, silver, or rocks) and a club membership fee of $10, all classes and use of the HOA-maintained shop are free.
Interested persons are encouraged to view the display case next to Lapidary Shop where a variety of projects created by members will be on display. If anyone is working in the shop, be sure to come on in for a tour. Those interested in getting started in any of the fun arts need to plan to attend our club meetings, which are held the first Friday of each month from November through April, from 9 to 10 a.m. in the Lakeview Room (west of the Pro Shop). Additional information is always updated on the shop door, or if you have specific questions, you can call Jim Mitchell at 216-501-0948.
You, as well as your family and friends, will be amazed and surprisingly satisfied with what you will be able to create after a few classes. We hope to see you in the fall!
