While a stay-at-home mandate certainly sounds daunting along with the HOA amenities closed, many of you have a little bit of cabin fever at this point, causing you to head outdoors to enjoy our beautiful weather. Many of you have taken to the streets to exercise. The streets are busy with walkers, joggers, bikers, and all sorts of moving vehicles. In the absence of sidewalks, walk or run against oncoming traffic and position yourself as far to the left as possible. Exercise caution when crossing the street. Wear bright, reflective colors if walking at dawn, dusk, or nighttime so it’s easier for cyclists, golf carts, and other vehicles to see you. Don’t always assume that drivers will see you. Bicyclists ride with the flow of traffic, not against it. Drivers should look out, too. It’s critical to drive in a manner that accounts for all others in the street. Stop where stop signs and stop bars are located and obey our posted speed limits. Anyone can wind up involved in a traffic crash. You cannot predict the negligent actions or reckless behavior of others. Following these safety guidelines and rules, everyone can do their part to make our roads a safer place.
Thank you to the many SunBird residents who have been aiding some of your at-risk neighbors during these difficult times. Even if your neighbors are fully stocked, continuing to share your plans with one another can be helpful, particularly as our residents spend more time at home instead of out. In times of great stress, helping others is a powerful way to reassert control in a moment where many of us feel helpless. Kindness toward others can be a great source of healing.
We’re living through a storm, and this storm will pass, as have all other storms. America is a strong nation and will get through this. We’ve been through crises before, and we will survive this one, but until that time, everyone please continue to be safe and healthy!
